Take Action
Following are steps you can take to help ensure the rights of legal immigrants:
1. Contact your Congressperson.
You do not need to be a citizen to contact your Congressperson, legal permanent residents can also contact them. If you don't know who your Congressperson is or how to contact them, go to the website listed below. You can send an e-mail to your Congressperson from this website. Also, you can mail a letter to your Congresspersons local office. Local offices are listed on each Congresspersons web site.
Ask your Congressperson to support legal immigrants by reducing the waiting time for family members of legal immigrants, and to oppose any legislation that rewards illegal immigration. This would end the current bias against legal immigrants. To ensure your Congressperson understands this bias, we recommend you reference our web site in your letter.

If your Congressperson is one of the following, please also send us a copy of the message you sent to them for our records. These members of Congress are on the immigration subcommitte or have other influential positions. They also have in the past voted to legalize illegal aliens, thereby increasing the waiting time for the relatives of legal immigrants, and support similar current legislation:
House
Linda Sanchez .... Howard Berman .... Mike Honda Zoe Lofgren .... Nancy Pelosi .... Sheila Jackson-Lee
Senate
John McCain .... Dianne Feinstein .... John Cornyn Arlen Specter .... Harry Reid .... Ted Kennedy
2. Contact President Obama
The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500
Comment Phone Number: 202-456-1111 E-mail: president@whitehouse.gov
3. Write to your local English language newspaper.
When most English language newspapers write articles about illegal aliens, they only report the perspective of the illegal aliens. They do not consider how some of the legislation being considered by Congress discriminates against legal immigrants.
Anytime you see an article about proposed legislation that would legalize illegal aliens, respond and inform them of the legal immigrant perspective. One good way to contact the newspaper is to call the reporter that wrote the story. Another is to write a letter to the editor. Also be sure to reference our web site so the reporter, editor, and readers can better understand how legalization of illegal aliens discriminates against legal immigrants.
4. Print and hand out the brochure below.
It is a small, simple condensed version of our website. It prints out on one sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 paper using Microsof Word. Follow these instructions: A) Print pages 1 and 2. B) Put the previously printed page back into your printer and print pages 3 and 4 on the back side. C) Fold the brochure in half. That's it, you are finished!
